Serviced Apartments at The Grange
One of the very few of their kind in Canberra — and the only ones in Deakin.
Sometimes the next step simply isn’t a residential care home (previously called aged care).
It’s having your own apartment, fewer everyday responsibilities, and the reassurance of knowing someone is close by — without giving up your independence, routines or privacy.
The serviced apartments at The Grange suit people who are living independently and confidently but would welcome some practical support and the comfort of a well‑run, connected environment.
Your own apartment. Life, simplified.
Each serviced apartment is a private, self‑contained one‑bedroom home designed for comfort, ease and autonomy.
You can:
- Relax or entertain in your own private home
- Enjoy a generous bedroom with a large ensuite
- Prepare tea, toast or light snacks in your kitchenette (fridge and microwave included)
- Spend time outside on your private balcony or courtyard
- Control your own comfort with reverse‑cycle air conditioning
To make day‑to‑day living easier, key household tasks are taken care of by our onsite team — the same familiar faces you see each week:
- Weekly apartment cleaning
- Weekly laundering and changing of towels and bed linen, with beds made for you
- Building and grounds maintenance
Less to manage. More time for what you enjoy.
Meals prepared for you.
Daily meals are prepared onsite by our chef, removing the effort of planning, shopping and cooking.
Serviced apartment residents enjoy:
- Breakfast each morning
- Two home‑cooked meals each day
Meals can be enjoyed with others or in the privacy of your apartment — whichever suits you.
Personal care – your choice.
Serviced apartments at The Grange do not provide personal care services.
Many residents choose to organise their own support through external home care, health or allied services — and those providers are welcome in the village. This allows you to remain in control of who supports you and how that support is delivered.
If your needs change over time, services can usually be increased or adjusted without needing to relocate.
A supportive option — without moving too far, too fast
Serviced apartments at The Grange are not residential care homes.
They are a flexible, dignified option for people who want to remain independent, reduce daily demands, and know support is close by — without making a move before it feels right.
When you need us, we’re there
At The Grange, a trained staff member is onsite 24 hours a day.
This is not a call centre or an emergency button answered interstate — it is a calm, capable person physically present in the village.
If something happens, they are there to:
- Respond immediately
- Provide basic first aid
- Contact emergency services if required
- Stay with you until help arrives
This level of onsite presence is not standard in Canberra retirement living. At Hindmarsh, it’s non‑negotiable.
Community — on your terms
Living in a serviced apartment connects you to the wider Grange community, with no obligation to participate.
Step outside your door to:
- Established gardens and walking paths
- Murray House with shared spaces and activities
- An indoor pool and spa
- Onsite hairdresser
- Allied health professional suites for visiting practitioners
- A varied range of resident‑led activities and occasional outings
Join in often, occasionally, or simply enjoy knowing it’s there.
Frequently asked questions
How is a serviced apartment different from residential care homes (previously known as aged care)?
Serviced apartments offer a private apartment with help for everyday tasks like meals, cleaning and laundry, plus 24‑hour onsite staff for reassurance. They do not include personal care or clinical services, and residents live independently, with flexibility and choice.
A residential care home is for senior Australians who can no longer live in their own home. It includes accommodation and personal care 24 hours a day, as well as access to nursing and general health care services. In some cases, retirement villages are co-located with a residential care home facility. There is, however, no residential care home facility at The Grange and Hindmarsh Retirement does not offer residential care home services.
Do you provide personal care?
No. Personal care is not provided as part of serviced apartment living at The Grange.
Can I bring in my own personal care or home care provider?
Yes. Many residents arrange support through external home care, health or allied providers, and those providers are welcome in the village. This allows you to choose who supports you and how.
What happens if my needs change over time?
If you require additional support, you can usually increase or adjust external services without needing to move. Our team is always available to talk through options if circumstances change.
Is there someone onsite if something happens?
Yes. A trained staff member is onsite 24 hours a day to respond, provide basic first aid, contact emergency services if required, and stay with you until help arrives.
